Baseline plasma SARS-CoV-2 RNA detection predicts an adverse COVID-19 evolution in moderate to severe hospitalized patients

Di |2022-06-17T00:00:00+02:00Giugno 17th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

CONCLUSIONS: Our data thus suggest that plasma viral RNA load at the time of hospital admission could represent a useful independent biomarker allowing early patients' stratification according to the expected disease evolution, and driving clinical decisions tailored on the specific needs of the individual patient.

Effects of self-quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic on patients with lumbar spinal stenosis: A case-control study

Di |2022-06-17T00:00:00+02:00Giugno 17th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

Prospective case-control studyThis study aimed to investigate the effect of self-quarantine on the changes in low back symptoms and activities of daily living (ADL) due to low physical activity because of the COVID-19 pandemic in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS).The frequency and intensity of low back and leg pain have reportedly increased in healthy subjects because of self-quarantine.Patients with LSS who self-quarantined from baseline (SQ group) were matched to controls who did not...

COMMENT: “All in this together”: the global duty to contribute towards combating the Covid-19 pandemic

Di |2022-06-17T00:00:00+02:00Giugno 17th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

This paper explores the unique realities and effects of Covid-19 as experienced in the global North and global South with special reference to Canada and sub-Saharan Africa; it also examines the moral responsibilities countries have towards their own people and the duty they have to work together to minimise and mitigate the devastating effects of the pandemic worldwide. We illuminate the importance of countries sharing their own world views, strengths, and expertise, and learning from one...

Peptide Binder with High-Affinity for the SARS-CoV-2 Spike Receptor-Binding Domain

Di |2022-06-17T00:00:00+02:00Giugno 17th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

Rapid antigen detection tests are urgently needed for the early diagnosis of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The discovery of a binder with high affinity and selectivity for the biomarkers presented by SARS-CoV-2 is crucial to the development of the rapid antigen detection method. We utilized the surface biopanning to identify a peptide binder R1 from a phage-displayed peptide library consisting of 10⁹ independent phage recombinants. The R1 peptide exhibited...

Teaching strategies for rehabilitation curriculum: Coping with the Covid-19 situation

Di |2022-06-17T00:00:00+02:00Giugno 17th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

The novel corona virus pandemic culminated in a global emergency shutting down educational institutions with recommendations of distant learning. Developing countries like Pakistan faced challenges in terms of keeping the education stream running. The current narrative review was planned to discuss the teaching strategies adopted by various institutes for coping with the situation created by the coronavirus disease-2019. Literature search was done using search engines and databases with key...

Vaccination after SARS-CoV-2 infection increased antibody avidity against the Omicron variant compared to vaccination alone

Di |2022-06-17T13:00:00+02:00Giugno 17th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

The SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant has caused infections among individuals vaccinated or with prior COVID-19, suggesting immune escape. Here, we showed a decrease in binding and surrogate neutralizing antibody responses to the Omicron variant after two doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 mRNA vaccine. Individuals recovered from infection before vaccination had higher antibody levels and avidity to the Omicron variant compared to individuals vaccinated without infection. This suggested that COVID-19...

Temporal changes in spike IgG levels after two doses of BNT162b2 vaccine in Japanese healthcare workers: Do spike IgG levels at 3 months predict levels 6 or 8 months after vaccination?

Di |2022-06-17T14:00:00+02:00Giugno 17th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that predictive formulae using spike IgG levels at 3 months after two-dose vaccination with BNT162b2 reliably estimate subsequent spike IgG levels up to 8 months and provide useful information in terms of vaccination booster timing.

Epidemiological and Clinical Features of Kawasaki Disease During the COVID-19 Pandemic in the United States

Di |2022-06-17T00:00:00+02:00Giugno 17th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this study of epidemiological and clinical features of KD during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, KD cases fell and remained low during the period of masking and school closure. Mobility data indicated that differential intensity of sheltering in place was not associated with KD incidence. These findings suggest that social behavior is associated with exposure to the agent(s) that trigger KD and are consistent with a respiratory portal of entry for the...

Translating COVID-19: From Contagion to Containment

Di |2022-06-17T00:00:00+02:00Giugno 17th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

This article tests the hypothesis that all pandemics are inherently translational. We argue that translation and translation theory can be fruitfully used to understand and manage epidemics, as they help us explore concepts of infectivity and immunity in terms of cultural and biological resistance. After examining the linkage between translation and coronavirus disease from three different yet interlinked perspectives-cultural, medical, and biocultural-we make a case for a translational medical...

Public perception of radio campaign messages in managing COVID-19 pandemic in selected states, Nigeria

Di |2022-06-17T14:00:00+02:00Giugno 17th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

The study examined public perception of Nigeria Center of Disease Control's (NCDC) radio campaign messages in managing the Covid-19 pandemic in three selected states in the south-western part of the country. A survey research design was adopted with a questionnaire as a data collection instrument. A sample size of 400 respondents was chosen through the multistage approach. The study revealed that the residents in selected states in South-Western Nigeria reported exposure to radio campaign...

Electrochemical degradation of Favipiravir (anti-viral) drug from aqueous solution: Optimization of operating parameters using the response surface method

Di |2022-06-17T00:00:00+02:00Giugno 17th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

The aim of the current study is to investigate the efficacy of the electro-Fenton process in the degradation of favipiravir drugs from aqueous solutions, which has increased in use as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was developed using a Central Composite Design (CCD) in which five independent variables, including Fe^(2+) concentration, current density, initial FVP concentration, pH, and reaction time, were coded with high and low levels, and the maximum...
