Di |2022-06-22T19:00:00+02:00Giugno 22nd, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

To examine whether immunization time affects the immune responses elicited by the BNT162b2 COVID-19 vaccine, we investigated the possible association between total SARS-CoV-2 spike protein receptor binding domain (TAbs-RBD) and neutralizing (NAbs-RBD) antibodies with vaccination time. A cohort of 468 healthcare workers (mean age [±SD]: 48 [±13] years), were included in the study. One month after the second dose, healthcare workers who were vaccinated between 1500-2200 h had higher TAbs-RBD...

Two Case Reports of Life-Threatening Croup Caused by the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.2 Variant in Pediatric Patients

Di |2022-06-21T15:00:00+02:00Giugno 21st, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

Croup is a common upper airway infection characterized by a barking cough, stridor, and hoarseness. It is usually caused by viral infection. A small number of croup caused by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been reported in children before the omicron variant surge. Previously reported cases indicated that croup caused by COVID-19 can be treated in the same manner as those with other viral causes. We describe two cases (9-month-old girl and 11-month-old boy) of previously healthy infants...

Important Lessons Can be learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, which after more than two years of worldwide suffering is still among us. First, we now better understand that global health concerns cannot be tackled and solved individually and verify that the dream for universal health care is far from being fulfilled. Besides, biomedical technologies and medical devices, despite their transformative potential, cannot always reach those urgently needing them, due to centralized production, supply...

Safety evaluation of the single-dose Ad26.COV2.S vaccine among healthcare workers in the Sisonke study in South Africa: A phase 3b implementation trial

Di |2022-06-21T04:00:00+02:00Giugno 21st, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

CONCLUSIONS: We observed similar patterns of AEs as in phase 3 trials. AEs were mostly expected reactogenicity signs and symptoms. Furthermore, most SAEs occurred below expected rates. The single-dose Ad26.COV2.S vaccine demonstrated an acceptable safety profile, supporting the continued use of this vaccine in this setting.

Proteolysis and deficiency of α1-proteinase inhibitor in SARS-CoV-2 infection

Di |2022-06-19T16:00:00+02:00Giugno 19th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemia had stimulated the numerous publications emergence on the α1-proteinase inhibitor (α1-PI, α1-antitrypsin), primarily when it was found that high mortality in some regions corresponded to the regions with deficient α1-PI alleles. By analogy with the last century's data, when the root cause of the α1-antitrypsin, genetic deficiency leading to the elastase activation in pulmonary emphysema, was proven. It is evident that proteolysis hyperactivation in COVID-19 may be...

Kinetics of maternally-derived anti- SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in infants in relation to the timing of antenatal vaccination

Di |2022-06-19T05:00:00+02:00Giugno 19th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

CONCLUSIONS: Maternal vaccination leads to efficient transplacental antibody transfer, with persistent anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies detected at 3 months of age in all infants. The observed effect of antenatal immunization timing on the kinetics of maternally-derived antibodies may have implications for SARS-CoV-2 vaccination strategies.
