Access to professional development opportunities promotes equity for both teachers and students. We identified time, distance, and childcare needs as limiting factors for teachers seeking to attend our conference workshops and in-person professional development opportunities. Therefore, just months before the COVID-19 pandemic and the rapid shift to online learning, the Genome Sciences Education Outreach (GSEO) program transitioned to online professional development for the NIGMS sponsored SEPA...

Is there a dose-response relationship? Investigating the functional form between COVID-19 incidence rates and life satisfaction in a multilevel framework

Di |2022-06-27T13:00:00+02:00Giugno 27th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

While there is plenty of research linking the effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic to a drastic reduction of life satisfaction in the population, there is little information on the functional form of this relationship. Until now, one could suspect that this association is linear and a higher number of COVID-19 infections in a region leads to a continuous decline of satisfaction. However, there are reasons to assume that this interrelation is indeed more complex and deserves further attention....

CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrate that additional SARS-CoV-2 vaccine doses are not only safe and efficacious in pediatric and adolescent KTR, but may be necessary to optimize antibody response. A higher resolution version of the Graphical abstract is available as Supplementary information.

Induction of a Cytokine Storm Involves Suppression of the Osteopontin-Dependent TH1 Response

Di |2022-06-26T12:00:00+02:00Giugno 26th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

Cytokine release syndromes represent a severe turn in certain disease states, which may be caused by several infections, including those with the virus SARS-CoV-2. This inefficient, even harmful, immune response has been associated with a broad release of chemokines. Although a cellular (type I) immune reaction is efficacious against viral infections, we noted a type I deficit in the cytokine patterns produced by cytokine storms of all reported etiologies. Agents including lipopolysaccharide...

CONCLUSIONS: A lack of trust in the safety and efficacy data of the available Chinese vaccines appeared as a factor inducing hesitancy. The resistance of younger respondents, especially trainee physicians, was a finding of concern since they form the backbone of the health system in the country.

E2UbcH5B-derived peptide ligands target HECT E3-E2 binding site and block the Ub-dependent SARS-CoV-2 egression: A computational study

Di |2022-06-25T20:00:00+02:00Giugno 25th, 2022|Categorie: Coronavirus PubMed|

Homologous to E6AP carboxyl-terminus (HECT)-type E3 ligase performs ubiquitin (Ub)-proteasomal protein degradation via forming a complex with E2∼Ub. Enveloped viruses including SARS-CoV-2 escape from the infected cells by harnessing the E-class vacuolar protein-sorting (ESCRT) machinery and mimic the cellular system through PPAY motif-based linking to HECT Ub ligase activity. In the present study, we have characterized the binding pattern of E2^(UbcH5B) to HECT domains of NEDD4L, WWP1, WWP2,...
